That's What She Said: #7 Not Really Feeling It

Sarah and I have been chronicling our estate-saling and church-saling (and the occasional yard-saling) adventures this summer in a dueling-blog series. I hope you've all been enjoying them, and there are still a few weeks to go!

Last week there were no estate sales that we were excited about. I was disappointed about this because even when I don't find much of interest, I love looking at the houses and seeing what stuff was important to people to hang on to for decades. There was a huge church sale that Sarah has attended in the past and was very excited about, so we broke tradition and went on *gasp* THURSDAY! We also planned to meet up with our friend Heather!

Heather loves the whole second-hand treasure-hunting scene as much as we do, but doesn't have the flexibility to join us on Fridays. So this was a special treat!

I tried to take a pic of how much stuff was in just the one room, and really wound up getting a pic of these creepy dolls. In fact, some of the workers were excited to see me take the picture and started asking about my interest in the dolls. They were very enthusiastic. I was not. I took off as fast as I could.

I felt like I was staring into  an infinite expanse down this hall. A well labeled infinite expanse.

I walked by one door and saw this guy, and thought "oh! Lil Sebastian!" So I stopped to take a picture, obviously. And then he moved. Apparently the goal of this church sale was to SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF ME. First the dolls, now a moving Lil Sebastian.

Yikes. I mean, for real, right?

I made a stop in the crafting room. The Susan Bates straight knitting needle set that I got a few weeks ago was missing a couple. I couldn't remember exactly which ones (way to go, self) so I grabbed a few that were Susan Bates, the right length, and seemed like a good bet. I got a few right!

There was no adult clothing room (I mean, what's even the point, then?) so I went to jewelry next. Sarah had already dug in and found a few things. She found this, which I got both because the jewelry is beach-themed and because it itself is so bizarre.

Shells and starfish!

Sarah and Heather were going nuts in the holiday room, and I was uninterested, so I ambled off to a different room. I didn't find anything to buy there, but I did find a friend!

My friend Chelsea is also into fiber crafts, and also into a good bargain, so I guess it wasn't surprising that we ran into each other. Inevitable, really!

I have to admit that at this point I (can't believe I'm going to admit this) started to get too hot, cranky, and lost interest. I hadn't found much, Heather and Sarah were elbow deep in some room, and I wanted to go get pizza with my husband, so I bailed. Check out Sarah's blog to see the damage she did at this sale, which I did not.

We met the next morning at another church sale. It was sunny when I left, and with the way the weather has been this summer, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that halfway there, the heavens opened and unleashed their fury on my car. This did not help my mood. When I arrived at the church, there were signs with arrows pointing to things that are apparently not the sale. I followed them, did not photograph them due to rain, and wound up running around the building in the rain. UGH.

I'm there. I'm kind of smiling. I'm not really feeling it.

I bought a bracelet, and that was it. But I was a little tempted by this:

Coconut bra and everything!

And this:

You might want to read that advisory.

And was campaigning hard for Sarah to buy this:

And that was it, folks. Over and done by 8:30am. There was another church sale closer to my house, but Sarah wasn't feeling that either, so we parted ways. I did decide to stop in, and did a lot better with jewelry.

My very first pair of Laurel Burch earrings! First that I'm keeping, anyway.

I wore this shell bracelet the next day. I broke this shell bracelet the next day. Sniff.

That charm is a bubble of glass with a real 4-leaf clover pressed inside it! I'm gonna wear this when I need a little luck.

I already bought and sold these, and regretted it. I love them, so I'm keeping them this time around!

Pearlescent earrings and matching necklace! Mine!

Sarah pretty much wants to fight me for these, but I am IN LOVE with them. Sarah Coventry, lucite with big chunks of metallic confetti embedded. True love.

Here's my whole haul from 3 church sales over two days, most from that last sale. I guess sometimes you hit big, and sometimes you don't. Stay tuned for the sales from my last few weeks of summer - hopefully some of those will be big wins! (*knock on wood*)
